This flange seals the connection between the carburettor and the cylinder. Over time the rubber perishes and cracks, letting in unmetered air — a common cause of a lean-running, hard-to-tune, or poor-idling 65cc engine. If your bike won't idle cleanly or bogs unexpectedly, a split intake flange is one of the first things worth checking.
